Amaryllis Ara

Archival Architect/Island Engineer/Principal Investigator/Visual Alchemist

Amaryllis Ara (ze/zir/they/them) is a multi-modal artist and folk practitioner based in Jamaica who is fond of rabbits, forests and being near the sea. Zir practice is experimental, acknowledging the queer body as a site of self and collective liberation. To anchor this acknowledgement, ze creates containers for communities to tend their flames through shared practice and processing. Their work has foundations in visual storytelling, media production, gender studies, and trauma-informed mindfulness + somatic meditation practices. Amaryllis blends these learnings with the intention of identifying recollection as a process of reclamation. Fueled by memory and curiosity, zir work creates futures with marginalized experiences at the forefront. In practice, materials are chosen based on context and potential for expansion, uniting research, imagination, and emotional alchemy.

Vesta Cay would not exist without the invaluable support of its collaborators. This is an evergrowing list of people and entities who contributed their time, care and talents to its conjuration.
